Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the maximum tonnage I am permitted to haul on my licence in NSW?

This will vary, depending on what licence you have. With an LR licence, you are permitted to haul 4.5 to 8 tonnes. For MR, HR, and HC licences, you are not permitted to haul more than 9 tonnes.

  • I have an overseas licence. Is it valid in NSW?

This will depend on a range of conditions. For example, if you are a permanent resident in Australia, you can drive on a current overseas licence for up to 3 months. If you are a visitor, your current overseas licence may be valid indefinitely. We recommend checking the Transport for NSW website to verify how long your licence is valid according to your circumstances.

  • What licence do I need to operate a gearbox truck?

An Unrestricted Gearbox Licence is required if you want to operate any kind of gearbox truck. The final test for this licence typically takes an hour to complete.
